How To Attend A Home Tour During COVID-19Posted on Sep 18, 2020
Throughout the last six months – amongst the ever-changing world of COVID-19 – we have all been forced to adjust. From transforming, to rescheduling, to canceling, events have taken on a new life in 2020. This is the case in the remodeling and home tour world, too. With the 13th Annual Homes by Architects Tour and the Fall 2020 Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase just around the corner, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) want to ensure you that safety is their top priority.
With that said, we are thrilled to be a part of both events this Fall! Virtually tour one of our recent projects during the Homes by Architects Tour and stop by one of our recent outdoor spaces during the Remodelers Showcase to get a feel of who we are. If you are considering a remodel, this is the perfect opportunity to get to know members of our team and to learn about what makes our process unique!
This year’s home tour is 100% virtual! This offers a unique opportunity to peek inside 17 different remodeled homes throughout the Twin Cities – all from the comfort of your own home. On tap this year is a mixture of new construction and remodels/additions in a range of sizes, budgets and neighborhoods. The AIA is allowing you to take the tour at your own pace, and is even offering opportunities to virtually connect with each architect! Don’t miss our Instagram takeover of the Homes by Architects account on October 2!
For this classic Tudor-style home in the Cedar Lake area of Minneapolis, we (happily) brought the outdoors in through a sunroom addition! Our clients felt cut off from the outdoors, and wanted to extend their entertaining space while also enhancing their view. We designed a “glass box” sunroom in the existing side yard; it’s modern, clean, and minimal on the interior, yet distinctly Tudor on the outside. We also added a new ipe-wood wall at the deck that acts as both an enclosure for the new grill station and as a backdrop for the front yard. Overall, we enhanced the functionality of this Minneapolis home while also maintaining its Tudor charm.

Although this Fall’s Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase is in-person, the BATC has put several safety measures in place for attendees. If you’re planning on attending the Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase this fall, please keep the following in mind:
- Masks are highly encouraged.
- Maintain a social distance of six feet.
- There will be a 10-person limit per model home.
- Do not touch surfaces.
- All high-touch surfaces will be frequently sanitized.

Although the number of months for outdoor entertaining are limited for Minnesotans, these spaces are at the top of many wish lists. After all, we want to make the most of the outdoors while we can! This was the case for our recent clients in Edina. Avid entertainers, they wanted to revamp their existing porch so that it fostered an easy flow from the indoors as well as to the additional entertaining space below, all while leaving their view unobstructed. Our design incorporated stunning features such as a contemporary fireplace and a “disappearing” recessed track screen door. The result? A backyard oasis perfect for outdoor dining, entertaining and movie nights!
