Home Again

HIAWATHA, MINNEAPOLIS

Tearing down and rebuilding a childhood home that contains so many memories was a project that Quartersawn was honored to be a part of. After growing up in a 1916 home across from Minnehaha Falls and returning with his wife to make the home their own, they found too many structural issues to make a remodel worthwhile. Quartersawn designed and built a modern home with wide open living spaces, vaulted ceilings, and thoughtful nods to the homeowner’s childhood residence. A basement beam post from the original home became a feature in the new kitchen, his home’s original front door was repurposed as a glass-topped office table, and the linen closet features two original oak windows. The main living areas were designed on the second level to take advantage of the home’s breathtaking location.
