Summit Hill House Tour
For the first time, Quartersawn will be showcasing an extraordinary home on the Summit Hill House Tour in Saint Paul. The tour will take place on October 8th, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The tour features local history, stunning architecture, and one beautifully remodeled home.
The Summit Hill House Tour started 50 years ago, in 1972 when the historic homes of Summit Avenue were in danger of being torn down. Over the years, the tour has grown into one of the most popular tours in the nation and serves as a major fundraiser for the Summit Hill Association.
We are honored to showcase a home that was originally built by Louis F. Lockwood in 1905. Lockwood was an architect who worked on several homes on Summit Avenue, and this home is understood to be one of his final commissions.
The current homeowners contacted Quartersawn to transform their light-filled Georgian Revival home. We partnered with the homeowners to reimagine their home in a way that enhanced and honored the existing architecture while adding 21st-century amenities.
Quartersawn executed some large-scale improvements to the home’s layout that if you didn’t know – you’d never notice. We relocated a staircase, powder room, and pantry which greatly improved the flow of the main living areas. We added a mudroom off the back of the home and added a second-story laundry chute and office. We were able to add modern finishes to the kitchen, primary suite, and pantry while retaining the home’s character by utilizing custom woodwork that harmonizes with the existing architecture.
