When people think about remodeling, they usually think about the finished product.
They picture the kitchen where holidays will be hosted for years to come. The primary suite they’ve always wanted. The addition that finally gives their family enough room to breathe. The home that feels better suited to the way they live.
What they don’t often think about is the experience it takes to get there.
And honestly, we understand why.
The remodeling industry hasn’t always earned a reputation for delivering great experiences. Most of us have heard some version of the same joke: your project will take twice as long and cost twice as much as you expected.
At Quartersawn Design Build, we’ve spent more than 20 years proving that it doesn’t have to be that way.
We believe homeowners deserve better.
They deserve honest communication. Realistic expectations. A team that listens. A process that feels organized. People who genuinely care about their lives, not just their project.
Around our office, we often talk about how we can elevate the experience. It’s a phrase that influences everything we do because we believe a remarkable remodeling project is about more than beautiful design and quality craftsmanship. It’s about how homeowners feel throughout the journey.

Fighting the Narrative Through Transparency
One of the easiest ways to win a project is to tell people what they want to hear.
The problem is that those promises eventually collide with reality.
We have never believed in that approach.
From the earliest conversations, we work hard to be transparent about timelines, budgets, challenges, and expectations. If a project is likely to take longer than a homeowner hopes, we’ll say so. If a desired scope doesn’t align with the available budget, we’ll talk through options honestly.
Overpromising and underdelivering hurts everyone involved. It damages trust between homeowners and contractors, and it reinforces the negative stereotypes that already exist within our industry.
We would much rather have an honest conversation upfront than create frustration later.
Transparency may not always be the easiest path, but it is the foundation of every strong relationship.
Communication Is a Promise, Not a Feature
One of the most common complaints homeowners have about contractors is simple:
“I never knew what was going on.”
That’s why communication isn’t something we squeeze into our process. It is the process.
Throughout construction, we meet with homeowners every week. These meetings provide space to discuss progress, review upcoming milestones, answer questions, and address concerns before they become problems.
Homeowners also have access to JobTread, our project management platform, where they can see schedules, updates, selections, and project information in real time.
We never want homeowners wondering where things stand. The more information we can provide, the more confident they can feel.
That commitment to communication is reflected in how homeowners describe working with us.
One recent homeowner wrote:
“Throughout the seven-month process, we had great communication with the project manager and field team. We had weekly meetings during which we were updated on the past week’s work and the upcoming projects.”
For us, that feedback is just as meaningful as compliments about the finished space.
We Created a Position Dedicated to the Experience
Several years ago, we recognized a gap in our industry.
Most firms have people responsible for design and someone else responsible for construction.
Very few have someone responsible for the homeowner experience itself. That’s why Quartersawn created the role of Director of Experiences.
The role exists because we saw a need in the market. We believed homeowners deserved an advocate whose primary responsibility was ensuring they felt supported throughout the process.
Our Director of Experiences checks in with homeowners, gathers feedback, helps resolve concerns, and creates meaningful moments throughout the journey. They serve as another trusted point of contact and another layer of support.
Sometimes that support takes unexpected forms.
If a homeowner is struggling with the realities of living through construction while working from home, we’ll look for ways to help. That may mean offering workspace at our office. It may mean providing a gift card for a spa day when things feel especially disruptive.
Those gestures don’t make a project shorter.
But they do remind homeowners that we see them as people, not just projects.
Listening Before the Project Is Over
Most companies ask for feedback when the work is done.
By then, it’s too late to improve the experience.
At Quartersawn, we gather homeowner feedback throughout construction and again at the end of the project.
We want to know what’s working and what isn’t.
Most importantly, we want an opportunity to make things better while we’re still actively serving a homeowner. Continuous feedback helps us stay accountable to our standards and continue improving the experience we provide.

Our Values Shape Every Decision
Every company has values. For us, they’re only meaningful if homeowners actually experience them.
At Quartersawn, four values guide everything we do:
Relationships. We believe great projects begin and end with trust. Long after the construction equipment leaves, the relationship remains.
Professionalism. We strive to show up prepared, communicate clearly, and follow through on our commitments.
Creativity. Every home and every family is different. Creative thinking allows us to design solutions that feel uniquely tailored to our homeowners.
Joy. Remodeling can be stressful at times, but it should also be exciting. We look for opportunities to make the process enjoyable, memorable, and even fun.
One homeowner described the experience this way:
“We always felt as if we were part of the team.”
To us, that’s what these values look like in practice.
The Ultimate Measure of Success
Awards are wonderful. Beautiful photography is wonderful. Completed projects are wonderful. But one of the strongest indicators of success is when homeowners come back.
Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to work with many families more than once.
In fact:
Some homeowners have entrusted us with three, four, and even five separate projects over the years. We believe that level of loyalty is earned through an experience built on transparency, communication, and genuine relationships.
– Jeff Nicholson, Principal of Quartersawn
For a remodeling company, there may be no greater compliment.
When someone invites you back into their home for a second project, they’re not just saying they liked the work.
They’re saying they trusted the experience.

A Celebration Worth Pausing For
One of our favorite traditions happens at the end of every design-build project.
When construction is complete and it’s finally time to move back into a newly transformed space, we gather for a move-in celebration.
We raise a toast, share stories from the project, and reflect on the journey.
It’s a simple moment, but it represents something important.
The project was never just about cabinets, tile, trim, or floor plans. It was about helping a family create a home that better supports the way they live.
And that’s always worth celebrating.
More Than Remodeling
At Quartersawn Design Build, we’re proud of the spaces we create. But if you ask us what truly differentiates our company, it isn’t a specific design style or construction technique.
It’s the way we care for people.
For more than two decades, we’ve worked to elevate the experience of remodeling by being honest, communicative, attentive, and relationship-focused.
Because when homeowners look back on their project years later, we don’t want them to remember only the beautiful finished space.
We want them to remember how they were treated while it was being built.
