Brick Colonial Revival

Lynnhurst, Minneapolis

In this 1923 brick Colonial in Minneapolis, the homeowners envisioned a whole-home renovation that would preserve the architectural integrity of the original house while elevating it for modern living. Quartersawn Design Build responded with a thoughtful transformation, first-floor bump-out addition, and new garage, carefully designed to feel as though it had always been part of the home.

At the heart of the remodel is a reimagined kitchen, once enclosed and disconnected from the rest of the house. The new design opens the space to surrounding rooms, allowing the kitchen to flow naturally into the dining and living areas. A light-filled addition extends the footprint, introducing a dedicated mudroom and a gracious new connection to the backyard, enhancing both everyday function and indoor–outdoor living. In the dining room, custom built-ins were meticulously crafted to showcase the homeowners’ cherished heirlooms, balancing display and storage while reinforcing the room’s architectural rhythm. The renovation’s most dramatic moment is the powder room, where a deep maroon color scheme creates an intimate, jewel-box atmosphere. At its center sits a sculptural Calacatta Viola marble sink, its bold veining transforming the small space into an unforgettable design statement. The result is a historic Colonial remodel that blends craftsmanship, architectural sensitivity, and modern sophistication.

We had a wonderful experience with Quartersawn. From the very beginning until the end, they were easy to work with and very professional … We’ve already recommended them to several friends and neighbors!
