2025 Year in Review: Twenty Years of Thoughtful Remodeling

In 2025, we marked twenty years of Quartersawn Design Build. Reaching this milestone prompted more than celebration; it offered a moment of clarity. Over the past two decades, we’ve learned that meaningful remodeling is not about scale or speed, but about alignment with our homeowners, team, and the neighborhoods we cherish.

Against the backdrop of a shifting housing market and continued uncertainty, we witnessed something quietly powerful. Homeowners chose to stay rooted. To invest not in more, but in better. They came to us seeking homes that reflect how they live now—and how they hope to live next. In response, we leaned further into what has always defined our work: disciplined creativity, close collaboration, and a deep respect for craftsmanship.

Looking back on 2025, we’re proud of the homes we shaped—but even more proud of the process that shaped them.

Standout Projects: Architecture in Service of Daily Life

Each year leaves its mark through a handful of projects that linger. Projects that challenge assumptions, sharpen our thinking, and reaffirm why thoughtful remodeling matters. In 2025, these homes stood out not for their square footage but for the clarity of vision and trust that guided them.

Moody Mid-Century Remodel

Master Bath Remodel

This whole-home remodel began with a paradox: expand livability without expanding the home. By reworking the existing footprint, we introduced a generous primary suite while preserving the integrity of the original structure. The interiors embrace a richly layered, moody palette—an intentional departure from neutrality—that honors the home’s character while feeling unmistakably current.

Every element was carefully considered, from expressive wallpaper to custom millwork that grounds the spaces in warmth and texture. Featured in the Remodelers Showcase, the project is a reminder that architectural restraint, when paired with precision, can yield deeply expressive results.

Terrace Oaks Transformation

1990s Home Remodel in Minnesota

At Terrace Oaks, the most impactful change wasn’t an addition; it was a reorientation. By relocating the kitchen into the former dining room, the main level was reorganized around movement, light, and connection. What had once been a series of segmented rooms became a cohesive spatial experience.

A sunken living room, previously interrupted by a structural post, was leveled into a continuous floor plane, allowing sightlines to extend and natural light to travel. Today, the kitchen, central island, and living area flow together seamlessly, supporting both everyday routines and large gatherings with equal grace.

Rambler Retreat

Pivot Door in Medina Remodel

Tucked behind mature trees, this unassuming rambler has become a refined, modern sanctuary. Thoughtful material choices and a softened palette created an oasis that feels both calm and intentional. The home stuns at first sight with a massive pivot door that greets each guest. Being featured on the Artisan Home Tour was a fitting celebration of a transformation rooted in wellness and comfort.

Design & Remodeling Insights from 2025

Rather than following trends, we observe patterns that emerge when homeowners articulate what truly matters to them. In 2025, those signals were clear.

Together, these shifts point to a broader truth: successful remodeling is less about excess and more about intention.

Homeowner Experience: Trust as the True Measure

While features and finishes tell one story, trust tells another. In 2025, more than 30 percent of our homeowners were returning alumni—one of whom partnered with us for the fifth time and is now building their forever home.

This level of continuity is earned slowly. It’s built through clarity early in the process, thoughtful guidance during complex decisions, and a steady presence from the first conversation through final walkthrough. For us, repeat collaboration is both an honor and a responsibility.

Community & Shared Milestones

Quartersawn Design Build 20 Year Anniversary

Our work extends beyond individual homes. This year, we connected with homeowners and partners through the Spring Remodelers Showcase, the Artisan Home Tour, and our own 20-Year Celebration. We also gathered with trade partners whose expertise brings our designs to life and supported local organizations, including the Como Zoo Sunset Affair and many others.

These moments reinforce the relationships that make our work possible.

Looking Ahead

As we turn toward 2026, our focus remains steady. We’ll continue refining our process, pursuing architectural clarity, and designing homes that support the way people truly live. Twenty years in and the work feels as purposeful as ever.

Every home we touched this year reaffirmed why we do what we do. Thank you for trusting us with the place where your life happens.
